Threaded studs and standoffs

Previous topic Next topic JavaScript is required for the print function

To place threaded studs or standoffs on your main plate, please first select Insert > Stud/standoff and place the object. In the subsequent dialog box "Stud/standoff properties", you can then determine the desired properties (design type, thread size, length).

Properties of a stud or a standoff

The following properties can be specified in the "Stud/standoff properties" dialog box:

Variable

Description

Type

Standoffs (female thread) and studs (male thread) are available for selection both in the standard version as well as in the version for larger loads. The standard standoffs and studs are suitable for displays, keypads, buttons and so on. Select the load standoffs or studs for heavier parts such as transformers.

Thread

The metric threads M2.5, M3 and M4 plus the inch threads UNC #4-40 and UNC #6-32 can be selected from the drop-down list box, depending on the load type. Other thread sizes are also available on request.

Length

The selectable length refers to the geometric length of the stud or standoff (not the thread lengths).

Depth offset

Sets the stud deeper on the front panel by the specified value. Please note: Studs that are inside cavities must be offset by the depth of the cavity.

Place on reverse side

Studs or standoffs are attached by default to the reverse side. Clear the check mark if you want  the elements to be placed on the front.

The inserted studs or standoffs are attached by default in specially milled cavities. The cavities have a diameter of 5.9 or 7.0 mm and a depth of 1.1 mm.

The cavities for the load studs and standoffs have a diameter of 12 mm and are 2.3 mm deep. Load studs and standoffs can only be used when there is a minimum panel thickness of 3 mm.

Please note the required distances to the edges of the front panel or objects (see section "Geometric constraints" below).

Geometric constraints

The required studs or standoffs are attached by default in specially milled cavities (Ø 5.9/7.0/12 mm). For secure attachment, their reference points should be placed at least half their diameter plus 0.5 mm from the edge of the front panel or from the edges of elements that pass through the front panel.

Please include a cavity depth of 1.1 or 2.3 mm plus a safety clearance of 0.5 mm if the cavities for studs or standoffs overlap with an element that does not pass through the front panel (for example, cavity) on the opposite side.
