Design check

Previous topic Next topic JavaScript is required for the print function

After developing a front panel, you should make sure that both the geometric arrangement as well as all of the properties which were assigned to the objects are correct or match the requirements. Furthermore, you should check the prices and delivery times with regard to the Production and delivery service .

Printout as test template

For several test measures, a 1:1 printout of the front panel design will be required. In the print dialog box, you can set the scaling of the printout to 100%. You may have to adjust the orientation of the page with the button "Setup" (portrait or landscape), so that the design fits completely on the preset page size (usually DIN A4).

It is often advantageous to stick the printout onto a sufficiently rigid board. The actual drilling of the one or other outline can also be helpful.

If you have selected the print option "Print in wire mode", the in-fill color of the front panel and the objects will not be printed, thus reducing the printing time (with an ink jet printer) and as well as of course the ink consumption.

If, in terms of the dimensions, the design does not fit on a 1:1 scale in the geometry of the preset page size, first check whether your printer can handle a larger paper format. If this is also not possible, please use the print option "Tile print". The design will then be printed out on a sufficient number of pages in the desired scale. In order to fit your "tiles" together properly, it is best to orientate yourself to defined dimensioned components (e.g. a rectangular cutout) which appear on each of two printouts. If necessary, create one or more such components just for the printout.

Front panel design checklist

This checklist should help you to avoid features which would finally arise as errors for the user.

Features that would prove to be errors during the production process will be picked up internally at Front Panel Express LLC, but to save time we recommend a few checks here.

It would be useful if a person other than the designer works through this checklist.

Do the dimensions of the base plate match the required dimensions? Is the outline of the printout compatible with the potentially available enclosure structure?
Is the selected material and set thickness correct?
If the material is to be provided by the customer: Has the option "Use customer provided material" been selected in the properties dialog box for the main plate?
Has the correct type of surface treatment or color been selected for the main plate?
Can the front panel be mounted as planned (position, diameter of the mounting holes, necessary countersinks for these, depth and width of required cavities, necessary corner radii)
Are the outlines of these front panel cutouts large enough?
Have adequate (tolerance dependent) size allowances been made everywhere?
Can all of the components be mounted without "getting in each other's way" (without geometrically overlapping)?
Is the position of the outlines (in relation to the enclosure) for the defined position components compatible with the position of the outlines of the front panel cutouts intended for them?
Do the outlines of these front-panel cutouts allow for mounting?
Are the outlines of these front-panel cutouts big enough to be able to attach any related additional terminal components from outside?
Are there objects (blind holes without/with threads, cavities) planned for the reverse side of the front panel?
If so, are they labeled as such in the properties dialog box?
If so, are the respective positions and sizes consistent with the requirements?
Is the content of the text engravings error-free ("proofreading")?
Are the typographical features (size, line width, font) appropriate?
Have the correct colors been assigned?
Is their assignment to the objects which they should explain clear?
Are the text engravings still free (readable) after all components have been installed?
Are the engraving objects positioned in such a way with respect to drilled holes, cutouts or cavities that the color in-fills cannot leak?
Have temporarily generated components for tile printouts been deleted?
Have all of the temporarily generated assisting objects outside of the main plate been deleted (check by pressing Ctrl + a)?
Are there duplicates in the price calculation production list (= objects of the same type in the same position)? These should be deleted for price reasons
Enclosure design checklist
Have 4 front panel files – 2 side and 2 cover panels – been designed and added to the order or the project?
In case you are not using your own screws or own enclosure bumpers: Has a corresponding assembly kit been added to the order or project?
Have the necessary side profiles been added to the order or the project and their lengths adjusted?
Has the use of housing brackets to stabilize the enclosure been included or considered?
Have 6 front panel files – 2 side and 4 cover panels – been designed and added to the order or the project?
In case you are not using your own screws or own enclosure bumpers: Has a corresponding assembly kit been added to the order or project?
Have the necessary housing profiles been added to the order or the project and their lengths adjusted?
Has the use of housing brackets to stabilize the enclosure been included or considered?
Price calculation for individual front panels

The current price of an individual front panel can be calculated at any time by pressing Strg + k .  Please note the automatic discounts valid per front panel up to a total of 29 panels.

Calculation of the total price

To calculate the total price for several front panels as well as possible enclosure components, we recommend that you collect them in the shopping cart within the ordering program and print an overview after adjusting quantities etc. It is also possible to have an offer printed.

You can also save the shopping cart for later changes or orders as a file.
